Explanation of Auto Insurance Coverage for Massachusetts
BODILY INJURY TO OTHERS - $20,000 per person / $40,000 per accident.
This compulsory coverage pays for damage to anyone injured or killed by your vehicle on public roadways of Massachusetts.
Any injuries to the driver or passengers in your vehicle is excluded under this part, but coverage can be purchased under optional Bodily Injury to others.
PERSONAL INJURY PROTECTION - $8,000:
This no-fault protection pays medical expenses, up to 75% of lost wages, and replacement services to you, household members, pedestrians, or pedestrians injured or killed in auto accidents. Persons operating or occupying motorcycles are excluded under this part, but coverage for medical expenses can be purchased under Medical Payments, Part 6.
This protects your, household members and passengers against injuries caused by a motorist with no insurance, or a hit and run driver.
This coverage pays for damage to someone else's property caused by you if you are found legally responsible for the accident.
OPTIONAL BODILY INJURY TO OTHERS
Of all the coverage's afforded by the Massachusetts auto policy, this is probably the most important! It protects you against bodily injury suits and guarantees that your policy will meet the financial responsibility laws of other states if you do any out-of-state driving.
This no-fault option pas for reasonable expenses to you, household members and passengers injured in auto accidents. This does cover persons operating or occupying motorcycles, unlike Personal Injury Protection.
This pays for physical damage to your vehicle, caused by collision or upset, no matter who causes the accident. (subject to deductible).
Hit & Run covered under collision subject to policy deductible.
WAIVER OF COLLISION DEDUCTIBLE:
A valuable and inexpensive option, a waiver allows you to file a claim under your own policy without paying a deductible when you are found less than 50% at fault in an accident and can identify the driver who struck your vehicle. We can vouch for the time, effort and worry you save by not having to deal with the other party's insurer.
This coverage also pays for physical damage to your vehicle, but only if you are not more than 50% at fault and can identify the driver of the other vehicle. Single vehicle and hit-and-run accidents are not covered under this part.
This coverage pays for accidental and direct damage to your vehicle other than damage caused by collision (collision with an animal is included), including losses by fire, theft and vandalism (subject to deductible)
Glass coverage is paid in full.
This option allows you to rent a vehicle or pays for alternate transportation while your vehicle is being repaired after an accident. It is a no-fault coverage and saves you the hassle of dealing with the other party’s insurer.
TOWING AND LABOR
This coverage pays for towing and labor charges each time you have an accident.
This coverage provides benefits to you if you are involved in an accident with someone whose Bodily Injury liability limits are too low to fully compensate you for your injuries. As with Uninsured Motorist coverage, this protection is your only recourse in such cases.
